The Uniersity senate

The University Senate is the supreme academic authority of the university, responsible for regulating, directing, and maintaining the academic affairs of the institution. It safeguards academic standards, ensures the quality and integrity of teaching, learning, research, and assessment, and advises the University Council on academic matters. The Senate plays a central role in shaping the academic character and excellence of the university.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulates and oversees academic policies, regulations, and standards to ensure high-quality education and research.

  • Reviews, approves, and monitors academic programmes, curricula, and course structures to maintain relevance and compliance with regulatory bodies.

  • Ensures academic excellence through the establishment and enforcement of academic quality standards, assessment regulations, and evaluation systems.

  • Promotes research, innovation, and scholarly activities while safeguarding academic integrity and ethical practices.

  • Regulates examinations, approves results, and recommends candidates for academic awards, degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

  • Establishes rules governing admissions, progression, academic performance, and graduation requirements.

  • Advises the University Council and management on academic development, priorities, and institutional academic planning.

  • Upholds ethical conduct, fairness, and credibility in all academic processes.
